Either way, we continue heading west for about the next 7 miles before this road and NM-502 continued west as the NM-501.Continuing a little over another 4 miles, the NM-501 then junctioned with the Route 4, where we turned right (to continue going west), and followed this route about the next 17 miles past Valle Grande.During this stretch, we went past the East Fork Trailhead, and eventually we arrived at the signposted turnoff for the Jemez Campground on the left. Once I crested the incline, then the trail was pretty obvious and wide as it seemed to follow some kind of forested ridge. Trash everywhere. The falls are pretty small and it’s not the best view but it’s easy. At the top you’ll see a steep slope down to the river with no trail but it will take you the bottom of the cliffs, then you can hike along the bottom of the cliffs east to the base of the fallsthe beauty of this hike is that you can add miles as you follow the river up or down. Jemez Falls gushes down through the Jemez Mountains. Jemez Falls is an excellent campground. Eventually after another quarter-mile or so, I found myself back at the day use parking lot on the other side of the fence by the restrooms. Just past the village limits and east of La Cueva, NM the easy and unforgettable hike through Jemez Falls Campground will lead visitors to Jemez Falls – a 70 foot plunge through a narrow gap in the granite bedrock.Named after one of Jemez Springs’ original residents, Fenton Lake State park is located just 19 miles north along Hwy 4 from the village. Come prepared for warm summer days and cooler nights. Jemez Falls is a 70ft waterfall on the East Fork of the Jemez River making it the tallest in the Jemez Mountains near the Valles Caldera Preserve, New Mexico. Excellent hiking opportunities. So instead of going back the way I came, I decided to keep left back on the trail. That led me to a somewhat steep uphill slope though it did appear that there was still a trail here. Came early. Easy hike to waterfall from camp ground. Nice picnic areas and restrooms available at trail head parking lot.Turn off your ad blocker to see a map of this trailEast Fork Trailhead from Las Conchas Trailhead via East Fork TrailEast Fork Trailhead to Battleship Rock Trailhead via East Fork Trail Located just six miles north of Jemez Springs, Battleship Rock stands at 200 feet tall and wasGilman Tunnels were originally created in the 1920’s after blasting out rock to transport timber via the Santa Fe NW Railroad. Nat'l Monument and Garden of the Gods in Colorado, and the red color from the Jemez mountains that can be seen while driving to the Jemez Hot Springs is dazzling. Very poorly regulated. Jemez Springs can boast its proximity to three of New Mexico’s most amazing water falls – Jemez Falls, Soda Dam and a waterfall at the Gilman Tunnels. I'll definitely be back! But there were inconsiderate people playing loud music and a lot of trash that spoiled the natural atmosphere. For a beautiful hike within the Santa Fe National Forest that features multiple magical waterfalls, Jemez Falls Trail is the perfect hike, any time of year. My camera couldn't catch the beauty of it. Popular area that's too crowded and has become trashed... broken glass, human feces and dirty diapers. With the proximity of the village to the campgrounds, access to lodging facilities is easy when a cool night calls for a warm shower. The bridge over the stream is gone but there are a few rocks you can use to cross. There is a scenic overlook near the end of the trail with a full view of the falls. Along the way, visit Soda Dam – a unique formation of colorful “petrified” water shaped like a domed falls; or Spence Hot Springs, with a choice of hot and warm pools and sweeping views of the canyon below. Had a hard time with heart. Again, during our visit, there was no signage indicating that it was even possible to hike a trail to the right of the fences. It was only after-the-fact when we finally noticed that there was pink-colored police tape where this side of the trail was supposed to be. Parking is minimal and people trying to save spots for others by putting their campchairs in them.Nice and easy walk to the falls but, PEOPLE NEED TO PICK UP THEIR TRASH!
