I don't know about the research, but I can tell you the water is always warmer in the beach area, due to the shallowness, than it is further out. The HKPR District Health Unit and Town of Cobourg staff both sample water once a week to monitor bacteria levels.
Cool 1. Remember that beaches on any of the great lakes are going to have "cold" water(it's all relative to experience) - these are huge, deep lakes, always moving... much like oceans - only smaller .A lake that is unconnected is likely to be warmer than one with tributaries always feeding it.
Excellent place to bring children as there is a large playground and water structure alongside the beach. Centennial Pool in Cobourg is an outdoor seasonal facility, open to the public.
