Although I do admire many of the tunes on this recording for their technical aspects and the atmosphere that they project, a part of me however perceives this recording as some type of academic exercise in jazz. I was fortunate enough to catch this band live. Dave continues to grow and expand his range as a top notch band leader. Best jazz cd of 2001?
