The beach was very small and had minimal people on it.....all looking for fossils and teeth. After we got back we went to the playground which is a really good one and made completely out of recycled tires!I heard this beach was great for shelling and fossil hunting so I decided to check it out with my boyfriend one afternoon. It's a nice place to unwind and be with nature. This park is a gem and I'm excited to return and do some more exploring!My father-in-law, 8-year-old son, and I enjoyed a crispy and sunny spring afternoon (Sunday, March 29) at Calvert Cliffs. The beach isn't big, but was nice and the water was warm and hunting for fossils was fun. We visited Calvert Cliffs State Park to take a hike and comb the beach for shark teeth. We visited the museum after and said "Oh that was what that was". The beach is small, but lovely.What a gem of a place!
We didn't find any. The swamp area was beautiful. Open super early too. By mid afternoon we couldn't get away from the sand flies. But it feels like it's not being run by professionals. Although there's not a lot of beach to lay down on, there was only one other family there on a Wednesday. Calvert Cliffs State Park is a beautiful park on the Chesapeake Bay about an hour drive from Washington, D.C. As you drive to park, there's a historical marker that says explorer John Smith wrote about Calvert Cliffs in 1608. Not the best place to visit during a pandemic because there was so little space on the beach and most people did not wear face masks at all (including two park rangers at the beach). A Maryland Sportfishing license is required for Bay fishing at the beach.Picnic tables and grills are available on a first come, first serve basis.
It cost $5 per car to enter and is about a 2 mile stroll to the beach. You haven't gone on a vacation in a long time so you decide to drive to the shark tooth/fossil hunting place in the middle of August and search for fossils. The park has rest rooms and picnic tables as well as hunting and fishing.Just visit this park to see the lighthouse. I turned around from watching my son play in the water and saw my dog covered in flies and well we ended our trip early.
When we arrived we looked at the map and decided to hike the 1.8 miles on the red trail to the beach. Bicycles are restricted to the service road.Take Route 2/4 south to approximately 14 miles south of Prince Frederick. The best time to go is apparently after a storm and at low tide. You will see all sorts of wildlife, birds, cranes, snakes, deer, turtles, water lillies, etc. Getting through the woods and having it open up to the beach is really awesome.

It's nice and flat with varied views along the way. We left on the Saturday morning of the July 4th holiday and didn't hit any traffic. It was nice to see a water jug and a box of toys for those near the beach. Apparently, it is ideal for budding paleontologists! Maryland.
Parking lots were getting full by 11 AM arrival. While we didn’t find anything on the beach, the hike was nice and relatively flat on the red trail. I still wouldn't worry about when you go because even though we went at high tide, we found 3 shark teeth, lots of cool shells, and a crocodile claw!
